We had ropes attached the ring straps at Stanford that we would use to get a similar effect (essentially shortening the length of your arms) to enable you to hit the positions and strengthen the muscles. It's a great training exercise and this looks like a much better solution than the sweaty old Karate belts we would use, ha.
